How do I know if custom software is right for us?

It usually is when the tool you have does most of the job and the rest costs real hours every week: manual workarounds, double entry, a spreadsheet nobody trusts.

If you are under about £1m turnover, or you are 80% happy and the rest is irritation rather than cost, we will probably tell you to stay where you are.

What type of business do you work with?

Any kind, as long as you turn over more than £1m (as this is typically the point where building custom software makes sense as an investment).

We always start by speaking with the people who do the work and mapping how it actually happens. Because that discovery comes first, we are not tied to one industry.

Do I need to be technical?

No. You need to know how your business works and give discovery a few hours a week. We handle everything else.

What is “discovery”?

“Discovery” is the first stretch of the project where we sit with the people who do the work and map how it actually happens, including the edge cases and the workarounds.

We do this before we write any code, as we want to make sure we build something that actually fits your specific needs.

How long does it take?

Two to four months for a core system. We start with the smallest piece that removes the most pain, so you are using something within weeks, then build out from there.

How do you make sure it fits how we actually work?

Every project starts with process mapping: 10 to 15 hours with you and your team, walking through how work moves, including the edge cases and the workarounds.

Within two weeks you are testing working software with real data. Your knowledge of the trade plus our build is what makes it fit.

What about the data in our current system?

We plan migration from day one, not as an afterthought. We audit where the data lives, map it to the new system, and load real records early so we test with them.

What if our needs change after it is built?

They will. We build in phases so you can adapt as you learn what works. Start with the core, see it in the real world, then add what is actually needed.
